I made me a Franken.

Recently, I decided to try my hand at Frankening a glittery top-coat. This is actually one of three that I have tried in my time blogging.

I've had my eye on  Lynnderella polishes for such a long time, but due to their popularity and recent events regarding their sale (if you read the more recent posts in that blog link, you'll have a better understanding), I haven't actually bought any yet. Perhaps I may treat myself around my birthday time...if there are any are available. I know those polishes are like gold dust...

I had a few little pots of hexagonal glitters in my Helmer so I thought I'd try customising my own polish to satisfy my hankering for a bit of sparkle. Why not?

Here it is, layered over Rimmel's 'Blue My Mind'.

Can we stop for a second and marvel at how striking this blue is? This is one polish that I will use until it is empty and then replace. This is my baby.

Please don't worry about the 'tip wear' - it's actually shrinkage resulting from the fast dry top coat.

I literally poured glitter into some clear polish. It's not bad is it? Or is it?
What do you think about this blue? Do you have it or anything like it?

Thanks for reading.

P.S. Here are some coupons for Overstock if you're in need of nail polish or other beauty products!

Wonder Grass Franken

Hey all, how's it going?

Tonight I have a swatch of a beautiful polish that only two people in this entire world (I think) are privvy to. Yes, it's a franken by Anastacia! I saw this on her Facebook page a little while ago and I left a comment telling her how much I liked it. So she sent it me...with a load of other polishes. Not for a swap; she just wanted to!

This is 'Wonder Grass' - a green jelly with green and gold glitter particles.

Eh. Don't worry about the clear polish right up there in the cuticles.

Have you ever created a franken? What are your methods? Do you mix old polishes together or use pigments or glitters?

Red Franken

Hello everyone. How's it going?

I'm sat here typing with my chipped and battered Christmas manicure so, for today, no gratuitous nail shots or photo spammage from moi. I did manage to pick up a few nail stickers for £1.50 from my local Savers today, so I'll put them to use tonight and get back to you...

For the past couple of weeks I've been on an on-line hunt for Studio M Slamming Red (look at Enamel Girl's, it's gorgeous!).  It's a nice reddish glitter polish that is highly coveted by many polish lovers. It's also one you can't get here and I can't find any on Ebay either. Unless I beg another wonderful, kindly, super generous blogger to do a swap with me, I'm not going to get this polish any time soon.  Sooo, I thought I'd try to make my own to satisfy myself for now.

I was perusing the cosmetics section of my tiny, local pharmacist last week. Well, I was actually on my hands and knees with my face buried in the discounted make-up basket and I found these little beauties just sitting there waiting for adoption - 3 for £1.  I couldn't leave them behind could I? It would have been rude.
They only have numbers, no names. I don't even know who made them!

I reckon they are less than 5ml in volume too.

I thought I'd be clever and use one of the two reds I bought, Nubar Essence (because it looks gross on me on its own) and Juicy Jules to franken my own knock-off Slamming Red.

This is what I ended up with.
.

Okay, so it's not quite a match but it will do for me...unless of course, someone has a spare one of the real Slamming Red just gathering dust that they wouldn't mind swapping for a UK brand...
I haven't even swatched it yet. Right, where's the acetone - I've got to get a-mending and a-painting.

On that note, see you later ;-)

Sargasso Holo and Green Snake - Franken Swatches

Hi everyone.  It's Friday (already) and for me, this week went very quickly.  How about yourselves? I hope things have been good for you.

It snowed again today and not for very long or extremely heavily in my area, but once again the news is filled with reports of people being stuck in cars for hours.  One story on the news today was that of the situation with the post office. Apparently there are 4 million packages just sitting in depots, waiting to be delivered but as the roads are so perilous at the moment, those packages can't be delivered.  Cue the shot of the poor little DHL guy throwing grit on the snow around where his van was parked, just so that he could get out and do his job.

When I was younger I used to welcome the snow. Now that the UK seems to be unable to handle a few inches of snow in so many hours (for whatever reason; I'm not about to go all political here) I start to panic and think about stocking the cupboards with formula, nappies, tins of soup...lol! I told the husband that if we can't get to the shops in the next few days, we'll have pizza from the freezer for Christmas dinner!

Today I'm going to show you two frankens made by Krisinphilly at My Lucid Bubble. The first is Sargasso Holo(graphic), the one I named.

This is a lovely dark green holo.  There's not much I can really say about it because I think it speaks for itself.  Do you like it?

Next is Green Snake, which is a little lighter.
 Daylight.

 With a flash.

L-R Sargasso Holo and Green Snake.
Sorry this picture is so terrible - I had to use the timer on the camera for this and then chop the picture to bits!

When I was out today (before the sky collapsed) I saw a few sales assistants taking a few quick looks at my fingers today. I'm not surprised. I've been gawping at them all day too.

By the way...are the bigger pictures better? I think they are but you the ones reading so let me know what you think?

Nitey, nite friends.

I won a prize from My Lucid Bubble!

Yep, that's right. A couple of weeks ago I was just a-browsing my dashboard to make comments on new posts (like you do) and I found that Krisinphilly had just made a gorgeous bottle green holographic franken (a new polish made out of one or several other different polishes, in the method of Dr. Frankenstein) and she needed a name for it.  I think holographic polishes are a wonder anyway, so when I saw this one, I was reminded of magic. And seaweed.

I suggested the name 'Sargasso Holo', after the Sargasso Sea which is near the mystical Bermuda Triangle.  This sea was fabled to have a mass of seaweed that a lot of sea monsters were supposed to be lurking beneath.  Oh, and any sailors unfortunate to get themselves caught up there...well...

Any hoo,  Krisinphilly liked the name and guess what, she sent that and another fraken to me along with a few other goodies!

I received 9 packages!

L-R  'Sargasso Holo' and what I will call 'Green Snake'. Two awesome holos frakens just watching to be swatched.

L-R 'Jade Is The New Black', 'And This Little Piggy' and 'Black Cherry Chutney'

L-R 'Bogie', 'The Real Teal' and 'Black Diamond' (a black holo)

L-R 'Magic Attraction', 'Wild Orchid' and Wet 'n' wild 'Tipsy'.

I was grinning like an idiot unwrapping each one of these and I was so choked by Kris's generosity.  I've only been blogging for a few months and already I've come across some really lovely people. Thanks again Kris!

On that note, I'm off to play with my new polish.

Talk soon!
