On Thursday night I decided to tidy up my Helmer because I couldn't find a thing. If you aren't familiar with a Helmer, this seems to be a popular nail polish storage choice which can be bought at Ikea. This little cabinet is cute and the drawers are high enough to house tall nail polishes like Revlon's and Peripera's.
I was then left with the question as to whether to organise my polishes in colour order or brand order. I headed to twitter and after the suggestion of one of my lovely tweeps, I decided to organise them by brand...I didn't get as far as putting each brand in colour order because the whole thing took forever.

So, do you want to see what's in here now??
Drawer number 1. Yes, I only have 5 OPI's...the shame of it.
Drawer number 2.
Drawer number 3. I spy some growth serums in there.
Drawer number 4. Full of lonesome polishes, nail files, full nail water decals, small decals and stickers.
Drawer number 5. Stamping polishes, acrylic paint, striping polishes, practice fingers, more files, fimo canes, rhinestones and glitters (all in the same box) and a few metal utensils.
Drawer number 6 - the junk drawer! Mainly full of false nails, rhinestone wheels, old art brushes and items that I rarely use. Oh, and my creepy practice hand. You'll note the red nail on it. My daughter painted that. The other nails on it were sculpted with clear and white acrylic.
There you have it - the entire contents of my Helmer. Can I be honest though. I have another box with a handle in which I keep my college kit. I have SEVERAL polishes in there (and scattered around my home), along with tens of files, buffers, a UV light, polish remover, acetone, a box of nail art pens, my decent brushes; the list goes on. I have another couple of boxes in my wardrobe in which I keep my giveaway polishes.
Are you surprised about the amount of polish I have? I was. I honestly thought I had a lot more than that. I think there are about 350 bottles there - give or take a couple. In comparison to where I was last year, I've made steady progress.
Okay, that's it for now! If you know how much polish YOU own, let me know in the comments box if you aren't too embarrassed to disclose!
xx

ReplyDeleteLol, is that a good OMG or a bad one?!
DeleteI think I have about 120-150.. I think..
ReplyDeleteI wonder where you'll be this time next year...
DeleteHow much was this storage? i serrrriously need some proper storage! haha
ReplyDeletexxx
£25. A bargain in my opinion. I need another just to put my college things in.
DeleteSo good!! gonna have to invest, never bought anything from Ikea before!
Deletexxx
Its sad, but I only have about 45 polishes in an old cardboard gift box :-( my best friend bought me a set of 40 nail art pens though! So that helps heaps :-D
ReplyDeleteIt's not sad! That just means you are putting what you do have to good use :)
DeleteHehehe I do find it funny how we start off with a handful of polishes, then suddenly a handful becomes a couple of hundred! I myself have around 300, I'm a little bit scared to count... I once added up the value of all my bottles (a very scary five hundred and something pounds) but managed to justify it by writing down all that I have saved by shopping in Poundland or taking advantage of good deals or receiving polishes as gifts. Why is it never enough? :p I love the colourfulness of your collection, polish bottles always look amazing grouped together. I should really get to organising my polishes, at the moment all my 'trieds' are in a seagrass basket and all my 'untrieds' are waiting on my computer chair, precariously balanced upon each other! Loving the creepy practice hand... eek! xx
ReplyDeleteYou sound like me Emma. I had polish everywhere. I'm glad you mentioned Poundland for polish; I love them for Revlon's! I should really try to put each brand in colour order but I seriously can't be bothered!
DeleteWell...wow...I am speechless at your collection. I thought I had an addiction...this take it to a whole other level!! lol
ReplyDeleteI'm so envious! I wish I had access to all that polish!
Thanks for sharing your collection! :)
You know that there are people out there with TWO helmers full of polish, right? My collection is only a drop in the ocean, lol!
DeleteI finally ordered a Helmer last week and decided to get organized! Though I think I will try and sort by color, since I tend to forget and buy similar colors that I have already. =x Where did you get your practice tips from, I'd love to get some to play on. :)
ReplyDeleteI used to do it in colour order but when you looked at the drawer, it was all over the place and pretty messy looking. I'm sure of the colours I have too and if I have a dupe, it's because I liked the polish and bought a back-up or someone gave it to me. The practice wheels were bought on ebay, as were the blank nail sets :)

ReplyDeleteOMG... can I to reside with You...? :-)
ReplyDeleteLol, sure!
DeleteI have about 150, but I'm afraid of counting them, because I don't want to know the actual number!
ReplyDeleteLol, thanks for sharing!
DeleteI made a list of my nail polishes just the other day to pop on my blog so I happen to know I have 182 at the moment, and 3 more winging their way to me! Your collection is amazing, I love seeing rows of neatly stored nail polish, I've not long bought new storage for my nail polishes but I already plan to buy a Helmer as mine doesn't hold the taller bottles :-( X
ReplyDeleteOh thank you :) I love my Helmer, it's a good purchase.
DeleteThanks for your comments. Please don't leave your links in the comment section though friends. If you want me to read your blog or add you to my blogroll, just ask!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I love that you have a broad range of nail polish brands, I wish I had more of everything else not just OPI. I'm only just starting to get into other brands, starting with China Glaze!
ReplyDeleteDamn I need a Helmer! Everything looks so easy to find! My collection's stuffed into 5/6 boxes - It's a nightmare!
ReplyDeleteLol!
DeleteWhere did you buy the false nails that are connected on a strip (that are in the drawer with the practice hand)? What did you type in for them to appear? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteNT- email me and I'll give you the details because I don't have a name for them; I found them by chance!
DeleteA happy girl! =D
ReplyDeleteWow!! Lots of polish compared to the first post. I need to get those drawer liners, I hate the sliding. I refuse to count how many bottles I have because I don't want to admit it to myself, so honestly I don't know how much I have. Thanks for sharing ;0).
ReplyDeleteOMG! This is a nail polish heaven! So many exciting stuff!
ReplyDeleteI just died of jealousy! That is awesome!
